Money Makers & Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 6)

Last year my friend Chris and I did some cross-over work and thought it would be fun again to do some this season. Chris’s mother once told him long ago that the true test of a friendship is time. Not how long the friendship has been. Not how often you get together as friends. However, when friends get together it’s like no time has passed at all. You pick right up where you left off!

So, although we aren’t always working together, we both tend to pick up right where we left off. Superfriends of fantasy DFS bring you some cross-over work in MMHB this week. I hope you enjoy.

You can find Chris on twitter at @detroitbeastie. Chris also writes for Team Rise or Fall where you will find his Bottom of the Barrell DFS articles. If you want to use that in conjunction with Money Makers and Heartbreakers, I would recommend it.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

💰 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes

Mike – I know, how can I say he is a money maker. Well Washington Football Team is literally the friendliest defense to quarterbacks in the NFL. The Chiefs have started slow and will want to produce a lot of points to try and even up at 3-3. The last three quarterbacks to play the WFT have all thrown for 279 yards or more and 4 touchdowns. Mahomes will make that 4 QBs in a row.

Chris – Looking ahead to the Chief’s match-up in Washington one thing is clear. Kansas City’s defense is not good! No issue given the talent on the offensive side of the ball, but it does paint a nice picture. A beautiful game script of Pat, Hill, and Kelce just stuffing the box score at FedEx Field.

Taylor Heinicke

Mike – The Kansas City Chiefs give up an average of 307 yards and 2 touchdowns per week to quarterbacks passing and another 44 yards rushing to the position. The Chiefs are the second friendliest defense to the position. That’s right this looks like it will be a shootout with both QBs throwing all over.

Chris – On the opposite side of the field on Sunday is Taylor Heinicke. Who has been fantastic given the overall mood in Washington. From a fan perspective, Heinicke has been fun to watch. Plus, nothing is expected of the guy. From a fantasy football perspective, it’s been all gas no break for the guy. Some folks mention the ‘risk/reward’ system when referring to Taylor. Although I do agree it’s still low-hanging fruit. Look, to me, Heinicke is the ultimate reward option in Week 6. He has nothing to lose and boy does he know it!

Matthew Stafford

Mike – Looks like I recommend paying up for QB this week. I do too. Stafford gets to play against the bottom 10 pass defense of the Giants in week 6. The Giants give up an average of 269 yards and 2 touchdowns to quarterbacks weekly passing. Stafford has passed for over 300 yards and/or multiple touchdowns in every game this season. That will continue in week 6.

Chris – In fantasy football, most folks pay full attention to the actual football player. Stafford is this or Stafford is that. What if, in some cases, it was all about the opposing team? See how I have set this up? The New York Giants are in shambles caused by injuries. On the offensive side of the football, it is bare bones! Daniel Jones, Saquan Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, and Darius Slayton are all on the shelf. Meaning, New York will struggle to move the ball. In turn, their defense will be on the field more than usual and dog tired. Stafford and Rams will do as they please on Sunday. Final being 31-14. Use Stafford and stack the Rams!

Running Backs

Joe Mixon

Mike – You know who is bad at defending the run? The Lions are. The Lions are the second worst team at defending running backs. Running backs average 111 yards rushing, 23 yards receiving, and 2 touchdowns a game against the Lions. Everyone has lit this team up and I mean everyone that runs against them. Joe Mixon should be in your DFS lineup week 6.

Chris – Remember when people were saying Mixon is done and washed? How he can’t handle a full workload. Joe can’t stay healthy to save his soul? Yeah, that was fun wasn’t it? Bengals win big in Detroit!

$6,400 on DraftKings
$7,000 on Fanduel

Antonio Gibson

Mike – Gibson had 60 yards and 2 touchdowns against a tough Saints defense in week 5. It gets much easier in week 6 as he is playing against the Chiefs who not only can stop the pass but apparently can’t stop the run as well. The Chiefs give up an average of 90 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Everyone seems to run for a touchdown against them, Gibson will too.

Chris – Gibby continues to deal with a minor shin injury. It’s caused some limited practice time, but he did deliver in Week 5. Thankfully Antonio scored twice last weekend. How many of you think social media would in insufferable had Gibson not scored twice? We can only put it off so long! Let’s table the idea for now given the match-up against a hapless Kansas City Chiefs defense.

Wide Receivers

Jakobi Meyers

Mike – Meyers only saw 5 targets against a Texans defense in week 5. In week 6 he gets to play a Cowboys defense that is the third friendliest to wide receivers. The Cowboys allow an average of 14 receptions, 212 yards and a touchdown to the wide receiver position. Meyers will be targeted often.

Chris – Jakobi will never light the league on fire. Jakobi will never be a top-5 wide receiver. However, Jakobi is a nice complementary piece each week based on volume!

$5,500 on DraftKings
$5,800 on Fanduel

Davante Adams

Mike – Adams went nuts against the Bengals in week 5 with 206 yards and a touchdown on eleven receptions. In week 6 he gets to play against a Bears defense which gives up the fourth highest average of points to wide receivers weekly. Look for Adams keeps it rolling in week 6.

Chris – The only issue with Adams is deciding HOW MUCH you’re going to use him. How much cash are you wiling to spend on a per entry basis? Here’s a secret, all of it!

$9,000 on DraftKings
$8,500 on Fanduel

Terry McLaurin

The Saints held McLaurin in check in week 5 by putting hi on Lattimore island. The Chiefs do not have anyone that can do that in week 6. It’s a bounce back week against a team that gives up an average of 165 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions per game to wide receivers.

Tight Ends

Tyler Higbee

Mike – The Giants give up an average of 6 receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown to the tight end position. Higbee has touchdowns in 2 of the last three games. I am counting on McVay realizing that the Giants are bad against the position and game planning accordingly like he did against the Buccaneers in week 3.

Chris – Given the match-up in Week 6, Tyler, to me, is a top-3 play at tight end. Stafford, Kupp, Woods, and coach McVay should do as they please. No offense to the Giants but sometimes the cookie just crumbles that way.

$4,400 on DraftKings
$5,500 on Fanduel

Mark Andrews

Mike – The Chargers are a bottom 5 defense against tight ends. Andrews averages 4 receptions and 55 yards per game. The Chargers give up an average of 6 receptions for 64 yards per game. Andrews gets it done in week 6. While writing this article Andrews exploded for 11 receptions, 147 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rolling, rolling, rolling, keep Mark Andrews rolling, rawhide.

Chris – Lamar Jackson and Mark Andrews went nuclear Monday night at home. It’s like someone flipped a light switch and BAM maximum yardage and points! It just so happens the Los Angeles Chargers are 30th overall against opposing tight ends. What I love here is the fact Herbert and the Chargers are no slouch offensively. Meaning the over/under (47) should come in, big time!

💔 Heart Breakers

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr

Carr struggled some in week 5. In week 6 it doesn’t get any easier as he is up against the second best defenses against quarterbacks in fantasy, the Broncos. The Broncos are pretty stingy when giving points to quarterbacks. Only Daniel Jones in week 1 has scored over 20 fantasy points against them.

Aaron Rodgers

You are not sitting him in season long but do not play him in DFS. The Bears are the 5th best defense against quarterbacks in fantasy. They also have not given up over 20 points to a quarterback since week 1.

Dak Prescott

The last time I had Prescott listed here I took a lot of heat, but he also didn’t produce well when I called him a heart breaker. This week he is going up against a team that got burned by Houston last week but held Tom Brady 269 yards and no touchdowns in week 4. The Patriots are tough on quarterbacks. Do not pay up for Dak this week in DFS.

Running Backs

Josh Jacobs

The Broncos give up the third fewest fantasy points to running backs. The Raiders play the Broncos in week 6. The Broncos have only given up 2 touchdowns on the ground all season. They give up an average of 68 yards rushing. Tough sledding this week for Jacobs.

Chase Edmonds

Edmonds has been very consistent. The Browns have also been very consistent, consistently tough on running backs that is. Only Austin Ekeler has had success against the Browns defense this season. Edmonds gets caught when chased by the Browns.

Mark Ingram

I hope you weren’t considering paying own for him in DFS. The Texans play the Colts in week 6 and the Colts are very good against the run. Only Derrick Henry has rushed for over 100 yards against the Colts this season. The Colts have also only given up one rushing touchdown this season. I hate all Texans running backs in week 6. Its not dislike, its hate.

Wide Receivers

Marquise Brown

Brown just had an amazing game in week 5. In week 6 he runs into the Chargers and their defense which is the second best against wide receivers in fantasy scoring. They have only given up three touchdowns to wide receivers and they have not given up a 100 yards to a wide receiver yet this season.

Courtland Sutton

The Raiders have only given up 100 yards to a wide receiver once this season. The Raiders have also only given up 1 touchdown to wide receivers this season. The Broncos play the Raiders this week. Are you catching on here? I hope so because Sutton won’t be catching on.

CeeDee Lamb

I know everyone loves his talent. He is being out targeted by Dalton Schultz and he is playing a Patriots defense that is very good against the pass. He may get some yardage if he gets the targets but I would look someplace else for potential touchdowns.

Tight Ends

David Njoku

I know the browns like to use their 3 headed tight end monster in the passing game. I also know that Njoku was incredible in week 5. Do you know what else I know? I know that Arizona give up the fewest fantasy points to tight ends. The most yards against them so far this season for a tight end is 36. Yuck.

Darren Waller

Waller is a player I love. I will be playing him myself in multiple season long formats. In DFS I am out on him this week. The Broncos are just a really good defense in real football and limit fantasy production for multiple positions. The Broncos give up the 4th fewest points to tight ends. Trust me and not the talent on this one.
